With 2017 drawing to a close we take a look at 17 moments across season 2017 for the Blackwood Football Club.

17. Temporary scoreboard

With the first round of the season their are still cobwebs on some things, and for the Woods it was the electronic scoreboard not working. The temporary scoreboard worked well despite its looks.

16. Smiths intercepting mark

With the senior colts fighting back from 24 points down in the Grand Final the game came down to the wire in the last quarter. With Hahndorf pressing forward late in the quarter, Caleb Smith stepped up to take a crucial intercepting mark to repeal the attack of the Magpies.

15. Up, up and away

In his second season at the club, crafty forward Ryan Dijksman had an exceptional year kicking 47 goals from 20 games. This moment captures Dijksman soaring for a mark, something he did on regular occasions in 2017.

14. New coaches box unveiled

With a new coaches box discussed for many years, 2017 saw the official unveiling of the new two storey box by local MP Sam Duluk and Nicole Flint. The new box gives our coaches an elevated view of the game and provides extra storage for our trainers. Thanks to Blackwood Building and Maintenance for its construction.

13. That feeling

There nothing better than kicking a goal as shown by Daniel Bennetts and Phil Hopton celebrating during Round 5.

12. Atkinson plucks it

Despite coming under immense pressure in the middle of the pack, Jake Atkinson takes the mark in the round 6 match against Echunga.

11. Girls football comes to the BFC

With the rise of the AFLW, 2017 saw Women’s football come to the Blackwood Football Club with Under 18’s, 16’s and 14’s teams.

10. KT takes yet another mark

A Grade captain Kurt Thompson showed why he is one of the best half backers in the competition. This mark was just one of the numerous intercepting marks he took across 2017.

9. Dijksman the comedian

Ryan Dijksman took his off-field jovial manner onto the field during Round 12 against Lobethal having a good laugh with an opponent.

8. Grand final speeches

They often say a good speech from the coach can inspire the players. These three could definitely be classed into that category.

7. Show time

Infront of a large group of mates Michael Minuzzo came to the party taking this spectacular mark in the Round 6 match against Echunga at U-Install-It Kitchens Oval

6. Mid match feast

Round 15 saw a wet and bogging affair against the Echunga Demons at Echunga Oval. Full-back Matt Waldron thought it would be a good idea to have a taste of centre square mud.

5. Anderson crashes through

Ryan Anderson is known from putting his body on the line and the semi-final was no different crashing through Hahndorf player Josh Wittwer.

4. Sleep time

During the round 14 game against the Onkaparinga Valley Bulldogs at Balhannah, Jacob McCarthy thought it might be a good time to have quick snooze mid-match.

3. Four premiership photos for the wall

Some space will need to be created on the premiership photos wall in the members bar with four new editions from season 2017.

2. The Blackwood army

The supporters of the red and the green are the best in the HFL. This image from the Grand Final summarises the support which the Mighty Woods receive every weekend.

Nothing can beat the moment the drought was broken. This picture will live in the mind for many years to come.
