The Blackwood Football Club has named an extended squad for this weekends Preliminary Final against the Uraidla Districts Football Club. Coming back into the line up is Jan Warbout after being a late withdrawn from last weekends Semi-Final. Speaking at training on Thursday evening, coach Damien Salievic said it was a set up to be a great match. “We’ve had three quality matches against Uraidla Districts this season. We must turn up to play from the first bounce to the last.”
Saturdays match at Hahndorf Oval will be a rematch of the 2017 Preliminary Final when the Woods played the Demons at Balhannah Oval. On that day, Blackwood took the most of their shots on goal to run out 20 point winners. Ryan Dijksman bobbed up for three majors with Scott Bricknell, Steve Woods, Michael Minuzzo, Nick Homburg and Kurt Thompson named the best players.
Since 2006, the Woods have played in five preliminary finals (2007, 2008, 2009, 2016 and 2017) with a three win and two loss record. The wins came in 2008 (27 point win over Hahndorf), 2009 (36 point win over Hahndorf) and 2017. In these matches the Woods have averaged 84.8 points at 65.7% compared to opponents who have averaged 77.2 points at 56.4%.
