The Blackwood Football Club would like to announce Maya Rigter as the coach of the Under 18 Girls side for the 2020 season. Rigter joins the Woods with an impressive football resume having played for Morphettville Park & Mt Lofty in the SAWFL and Sturt in the SANFL.

In 2019 she was a part of the Sturt leadership group and had outstanding season finishing runner up in the Best and Fairest count and being named Best Under 21’s player. She also featured in the 2019 Advertiser SANFL Women’s Team of the Year for her outstanding season where from 10 matches she 13.1 disposals (at 76% efficiency), 1.8 marks, 7.5 tackles, 2.1 clearances and 70 dream team points.

Coaching wise, Rigter steps up as the head coach of a side for the first time having held assistant coaching roles at Sturt Under 17s in 2018/2019 and Mercedes College in 2019. When asked about what attracted her to the Woods she said the culture and inclusive nature of the club was something that stood out. “Blackwood has a very inclusive nature where people care and respect each other. This occurs across all teams, divisions, ages and men’s, women’s, boys and girls teams.”

“The club is just always so positive and strives for the players and coaches to do the best they can possible in football and in life in general whilst maintaining the fun that football brings people.

Her goals for the upcoming season are pretty simple, aiming to develop players, help the girls to get the most out of their time and to hopefully win a premiership. “It can be scary to say I want to win a premiership or to think that far ahead, but that’s the ultimate goal for all teams.”

“I would like to achieve it with positivity whilst developing players and helping the girls get the most of the their time in the team to be better players and people in the future. I can’t wait to get started.”

To date, Rigter has an impressive playing career having donned the guernsey for Morphettville Park & Mt Lofty in the SAWFL and Sturt in the SANFL Womens Competition.
