This is what football is all about!

The Under 10’s Girls side ventured out to Woodville Oval last Sunday for the Eagles annual Carnival Day. The carnival drew 81 other teams from 27 clubs with a total of 124 Lightning format matches as a curtain raiser to the Eagles v Crows SANFL League match.

Originally drawn to play three matches, the young Woods were lucky enough to squeeze in a fourth match as another club left early due to low numbers. The girls performed admirably against four teams they hadn’t faced during the season. We don’t keep scores in this grade, however we were likely ahead in three of the shortened format matches.

Despite the impending weather, the girls appeared more excited than usual and played the first two games in bright sunshine with a gale blowing to one end. The last two games, and the gaps in between were in difficult with heavy rain and wind, but the girls played really brilliant.

A highlight was our youngest player kicking her first goal for the season, which meant all 16 players kicked their first goal for the Mighty Woods!

Despite all players and parents being drenched, at least 4 of the team continued on to Alberton to watch the U/14 and U/16 Girls Grand Finals and we congratulate them and look forward to upholding their standards in the years to come. Go Woods!
