Ryan Anderson has advised the Board and Players that he will step down as Senior Coach of the Blackwood Football Club.

Anderson took over the role as Senior Coach of the Blackwood Football Club from Damian Salievic ahead of the 2019 season.

“It has been an absolute privilege and joy to coach the Woods. Being from Victoria I don’t get to see my family very much but ever since coming to the club in 2016, I have felt like he has been a second home for me and my family.” Anderson said.

“Taking on the job has taught me so much about not only football but also life in general. Every single member of the Senior playing squad and also the people around the club have been so supportive of me, I can certainly say this is one of the proudest things I have done in my life.”

“It’s been a wonderful journey to coach such a great club. There have been some great memories made along the way and whilst we couldn’t achieve the ultimate success during my time as coach, I have no doubt there are some exciting times coming for the club. There is so much talent in the playing squad and coming through the junior ranks.”

Anderson led the Club in 28 matches, encompassing successive finals campaigns in 2019 making the Elimination Final and in 2020 making the Preliminary Final.

Blackwood Football Club President Kris Winchester said he understood and respected the decision after Anderson informed the club. “Ryan has give his all to the Club during his time as a coach and player. His commitment, passion and love for football is second to none and we can’t thank him enough for the positive contribution he has made.”

“Coaching & playing is a very demanding role and we not only thank him but also his family – to his wife Jenna and two children (Ivy and Freddie) for sharing their husband and father in recent years. We wish them the very best for the future.”

Along with stepping down as coach of the Blackwood Football Club, Anderson also hangs up the boots having played a total of 81 matches in the red and green. During these matches he kicked a total of 70 goals and was named in the better players on 29 occasions (35.8%). He was member of the drought-breaking 2017 premiership side and also a two-time runner-up Moulden Medallist in 2016 & 2018, the Simon Byrne Most Courageous Player & Player of the Finals in 2017.

The search for the next Senior Coach of the Blackwood Football Club will begin shortly with applications to be opened.
