The Blackwood Football Club has a new Moulden Medallist. Scott Bricknell has become the 19th Moulden Medallist after taking out the count by two votes at last Friday’s presentations.

Polling in seven of eight matches across the season, Bricknell raced out of the blocks polling 27 votes in the opening three matches with Nathan Dunn in hot pursuit one vote behind. After the bye, Bricknell continued his hot form picking up 12 votes against Uraidla Districts with Ben Macreadie polling 11 in the match. Finding form in the back end of the season Macreadie closed the gap to Bricknell in the remaining four matches including 14 votes in Round 8 versus Echunga and 15 votes in Round 9 against Mt Barker however Bricknell held on to claim his first Moulden Medal, having finished in second place on three previous occasions (2015, 2017 and 2019).

Finishing in second and third place was Ben Macreadie (52 votes) and Rhys Sporn (32 votes). In fourth place was 2020 Mail Medallist Matt Tuck with 31 votes whilst association leading goal kicker Joel Aish rounded out the top five polling 28 votes.

Upon accepting the award, Bricknell said it was such an honour to win the Moulden Medal. “I am incredibly grateful to have been able to play for the Blackwood Football Club and I am humbled to accept this award.”

“Ever since KT (Kurt Thompson) and myself walked into the club six years ago, it has felt like home to me. We played some great football across the season this year and there are many players who could be standing up here accepting this award.”

In the Open Women’s, Michaela Collins claimed her first Best & Fairest award polling 52 votes ahead of Grand Final best-on-ground Scarlett Griffiths with 41 votes. Collins claimed the award polling in five of seven matches including being adjudged best player in Round 1, Round 3, Round 5 and Round 6. In her first season of football, basketball convert Jessica Good finished in third place with 31 votes whilst Taylah Jayne, Brieanna Medder and Danielle Angley finished in equal fourth place with 23 votes.

Speaking on stage after accepting the award, Collins said playing in such a great team made football fun. “We are such a close group of girls and having fun is what it is all about. I really enjoy turning up to training and games because we have such a wonderful team.”

In the B Grade Zac Town received the best and fairest award polling 54 votes to finish 14 ahead of Moe Milsom in second place whilst Lachlan Furness and Sam Zevenboom tired for third place with 27 votes.
