Blackwood Football Club junior Tamika May is set to make her league debut for West Adelaide against the Sturt Football club this Saturday at Elizabeth Oval. May is a 4-time junior premiership player for the Woods and has been working extremely hard in the off-season on her kicking, skill development and fitness. May will play as a second ruck, and joins fellow Woods players Scarlett Griffiths, Olivia Smith and Zoe Venning in the line-up to face up against the Double Blues.

The Woods have a strong presence in the West Adelaide team with Tyler Attiwill, Taylah Jayne and Beth Sigley also part of the 2020 squad. Kiera Mueller and Maya Rigter (Girls Under 18s coach) are also a part of the squad for the Double Blues in 2020.

In state representation news, Griffiths, Jayne, May and Venning have all been selected in the 52 player State Under 18 squad. The players completed AFL testing in the school holidays, with the squad to be cut to 30 in the next few weeks.

Attiwill and Sigle (Port Under 16 academy) and Lily Whitcombe (Crows Under 16 academy) will be playing in three Showdown games, a curtain raiser for the Crows AFLW games over the next few months, to try and win selection to the State Under 16 girls team who will play Victoria Metro later in the year.  We wish them all the best, and if you do happen to go to an AFLW game, maybe go slightly earlier to cheer on the Blackwood talent.

The Woods female teams have been training now on Wednesday for a few weeks following the Come-and-Try at the start of February. If you are interested or no someone aged between eight-and opens, that may be interested in playing female football send us an email below for more information.
