Last weekend saw some great football played amongst the junior boys teams. Below are match summaries from the six teams which compete for premiership points.

Under 12s

We got off to a great start in the first term with the midfield on top, led well by Kobe and Alfie driving the ball repetitively deep into our forward line. Again our forwards weren’t playing in front and eventually with the weight of forward entries we got some score on the board. Jaxon & Jackson scored our goals in the first term.

In the second and third quarters our voice dropped and we looked to lose our appetite for the contest. We were out-numbered around the ball, didn’t chase hard enough and lacked spark. The game was in the most part played out on the dead side of the ground which probably contributed to the congested style of play. We were held scoreless for the 2nd & 3rd quarters.

Early in the last which was our cleanest forward movement for the match which was match defining. Somehow we found a way and ground out a win, showing some character in the last term with our defenders playing in front and leading their opponents to the ball.

Blackwood 2.3 2.3 2.3 3.3 (21)

It was a tough time of it for our boys at Hectorville on Friday night. The weather was tough, and the opposition was tougher. Our endevour was great, our attitude was great, the spirit was high and we put in a four quarter effort. We were unlucky not to trouble the scorers on the night which was a shame and didn’t reflect what our boys put on the park that night. In addition to our top 5, Max Jones and Noah Holiday deserve special mention for their solid games.

Beaten by the competition leaders, a stronger, bigger and more mobile side, we walked away with lots of work to do on our game but our heads held high.

Getting on top in the match the team ran out the last quarter kicking another five goals. The match was an outstanding team performance highlighted by the share of goal scoring with seven individual players kicking a goal.

Round 4 against Eastern Park was a fantastic win. Eastern Park have been competitive and we dominated them in the first half, scoring 14.2 to 0.1 before mixing the team up in the 2nd half. We addressed a number of issues from last week, proactively setting up the wall in defence and spreading hard on the turnover. Execution can still get better but was a vast improvement. The forwards worked well together and our overall game play and switching was excellent, creating numerous opportunities and exposing their defence.

Final scoreboard
Blackwood 6.8 14.2 19.6 21.6 (132)
Eastern Park 0.0 0.1 2.1 8.1 (49)

Round 6 was a dominate display for the Junior Colts running out 129 points winners. Getting off to a great start the side kicked seven, six and five majors in the opening three quarters. Whilst the last quarter only resulted in two goals being scored, it also saw the outstanding individual performance from Sam Tonkin who brought up his tenth major of the match. The win sees the team sit in second position with a tough match against Mt Barker to follow

Final scoreboard
Blackwood 7.1 13.4 18.7 20.10 (130)
Lobethal 0.0 0.0 0.0 0.1 (1)

The Senior Colts got away to a sluggish start conceding the first four goals of the match. Kicking into gear, the side managed to get some possession from the midfield and claw their way back into the match in the latter half of the term to only trail by one goal at the first break. After some words of wisdom by coach Thomas, the side had a dominate second quarter kicking 7.2 (44) to no score. Continuing on its way after half time the side eventually ran out 57 point winners, and now sits third on the ladder by percentage.

Final scoreboard
Blackwood 3.1 10.3 12.6 16.7 (103)
Lobethal 4.1 4.1 5.2 7.4 (46)
