Recap last weekends matches from our the six junior boys teams which compete for premiership points:

Under 12s

Travelling to Edwardstown Oval last Sunday, our Under 12’s faced another great challenge and took a step forward in their development overcoming a late charge from top of the ladder team Edwardstown to win by just 4 points. First quarter starts have been a feature this year showing the group is preparing well for games. We saw another example of this with our mids getting first to the ball right from the start and lead 2-2 to 0-0 at the first change.

Our big boys presented well on all lines and played a huge part in our link up and ball movement which was as good as we have seen so far this season. All of this work was complemented by Fraser Grigg at Full Forward imposing himself on the game early, finishing off many attacking passages of play and kicking 3 goals. Our group had so many contributors throughout the game which in the end proved the difference between the 2 teams.

The efforts from our defensive half cannot be underestimated either and the fact we have conceded the least amount of points in the competition is recognition of their hard work. This team continues to improve and we look forward to our next challenge.

Final scoreboard
Blackwood 2.2 2.2 3.3 3.3 (21)
Edwardstown 0.0 0.4 0.5 2.5 (17)

Under 13s

In near perfect conditions for football our boys enjoyed a good hit out against Edwardstown. It was an even game for the most part, with both sides enjoying good passages of play throughout the game.

We were encouraged to see the team take a step forward this week in regards to implementing some of the things we have been working on at training, and we got some scoreboard reward for our efforts. We need to continue to work on bringing everyone into the game and at present we remain too reliant on the same boys to do the heavy lifting.

Our best on Sunday had outstanding games, particularly Spencer Warrilow and Max Jones who really stood out on the day. Solid contributions from Matt Guthleben, Dylan Willis, Asher Young and Sam Wright helped us be competitive all day. We tip our hats to Edwardstown who snuck home in a good contest, played once again in the best of spirit by both teams.

Under 15s

The Under 15s faced the top of the table Goodwood Saints in Round 5 of the SANFL Boys competition. Coach Torode said whilst it was disappointing not to get the win, the team played some of our best football for the season and showed that we were able to go toe-to-toe for four quarters against the top team in the competition. Their was some hood decision-making under pressure and ball movement was excellent. The zone held up and back line absorbed a lot of pressure, setting up a number of attacking moves forward on the turnover. Their was also continued development and improvement from all players in the match. After the completion of the round the team sits in fourth position on the ladder.
