2011 Senior Presentation Night
2011 Senior Presentation Night
Simon McCormick has won his third Moulden Medal in a row being named Blackwood's Best & Fairest for the A grade at the recent Senior Presentation Night. McCormick, who has touted retirement, won his third Moulden Medal from fellow "retiree" Kym Cobb. Though possibly not reaching the stellar heights of last season, were he "romped" away with the Hills Central Mail Medal, "Kenny" has still had a very consistent year, being the catalyst for many of the Woods victories in 2011. Praised by coach Damien Salievic as "possibly the best player ever to pull on the red and green gurnsey", McCormick deservedly received a standing ovation from all in the room. He becomes the first player to win three consecutive Best & Fairest Medals and only the second player to win three Medals equalling John "Smiler" Brumpton.

Runner-up Kym Cobb also received a standing ovation for his final season of football, and what a season it was! Talked out of retirement by Salievic at the end of 2010, "Cobby" enjoyed the opportunity to play a bigger role in the midfield and forward lines. In his emotional speech he lamented the heartbreak of the one point Grand Final loss that will forever burn deep, but challenged the next generation of Blackwood youngsters to "step up" and become the new force.

Nick Work was a deserved runner-up with a consistent season, often being called upon into the A grade. The Best Team Man Award went to backman Hamish Bills, described by Bs Coach Glen Forbes as the "most organised player in the world"! The Coaches Award was awarded to Luke Gunn, while Jason Chambers and Luke Fisher shared the Leading Goalkicker award with 28 goals a piece.

In the Club Awards, the Watchman Tophy for service to the club was deservedly awarded to John Sidebottom. The Peter Roberts Award for services to B grade and below was awarded to Dan Gunn. The Les Gillard Supporter of the year was presented to Jo Plummer. And it was with great pleasure that the club was able to announce that , apart from a few post grand final "shinannigins", nobody was found to be a fitting recipient of the "Golden Shovel Award"!
