With the 2018 season having drawn to a close, the Blackwood Football Club wishes to advise the following changes have been made to the clubs senior football department for the 2019 campaign.

Director of Coaches

After guiding the club for 161 matches across eight seasons including the drought breaking premiership in 2017, Damien Salievic is moving into a newly created position titled the Director of Coaching. Under this position, Salievic will be responsible for:

  • Development of all Coaching staff.
  • Consistent Messaging between all coaches.
  • Assisting coaches in Developing Blackwood Juniors.

Speaking at the clubs 2018 Moulden Medal count, Salievic said he felt it was the right time to hand over the reigns. “Something that has always stuck in my mind in my second go is handing over the football club when it’s in a really sound position to the right candidate so we can go forward. After five years, I feel like it’s the right to for a new voice to coach this football club.”

Senior Coach

With Salievic moving into the newly created Director of Coaches position, the club is excited to announce Ryan Anderson will be taking over the position of senior coach of the A Grade for the 2019 season. Anderson will be undertaking this role as a playing-coach role.

Coming to the club in 2016, Anderson has become one of the most valuable players for the Woods providing electrifying speed and a ferocious attack on the ball. In the 55 games Anderson has played in the red and the green, he has kicked 59 goals and been named in the best players on 27 occasions.

Anderson spoke at the clubs Moulden Medal count about coming into the role. “I just want to thank the football club. We’ve had many people come up and say how they love the football club. I’ve been here three years and fallen in love with the place.”

“The people involved in this football club are fantastic, from the medical staff to the people who run the club, to the supporters. It’s such a family orientated club. I look forward to the role and taking the club back to the top of the ladder.”

B Grade coach

The club would also like to announce that Nick McCarthy will continue in the role of B Grade coach for 2019. Whilst going down in the semi-final it was an exciting year with 57 individual players including eleven senior colts playing across the year. McCarthy will continue to work with A Grade coaching group to develop players so they are ready for a long, sustained A Grade careers at the Blackwood Football Club.

Senior Colts Program

The senior colts program will be shifting under the senior football directors’ control for the 2019 campaign. With the age group now moving to Under 18s, the Senior Colts will be shifted under the senior program with the aim of ensuring we progress our junior players into senior football.
