Dual Moulden Medal winner and past HFL Mail Medalist Troy Edwards is set to become the 45th member of the 200 club this weekend when he plays his 200th senior match in the red and the green during Round 12 of the Mortgage Choice Hills Football League.

The veteran spoke about how thankful hr was to be able to play 200 games. “It’s a privilege to be able to play the game I enjoy for such a long and consistent period. It’s an honour to join some of the greats at the club and play 200 matches.”

Coming to the club in 2002, Edwards played 16 matches in his first season, kicking 20 goals. Only playing three matches in 2003 he then moved down to the Adelaide University for the next four seasons. Returning to the Woods in 2008, Edwards became a mainstay in the A Grade for the next nine seasons playing 90.5% (162 of 179) A Grade matches across this period.

In 2014, Edwards was recognised for his outstanding season being awarded the Division 1 A-Grade Hills Football League Mail Medal. Polling 21 votes across 18 matches Edwards won the award by four votes from Lobethal player Tim Jenkin. He was awarded votes 9 individual matches including best-on-grounds in Round 3 against Ironbank, Round 6 against Bridgewater, Round 12 against Ironbank, Round 14 against Mt Barker and Round 15 against Bridgewater.

Edwards reflected on how football has played during his career saying that it is a totally different game today. “The biggest difference in today’s game is how the interchange bench is used. Back in the day if you started on the bench you were lucky to get on the ground and if you got dragged you wouldn’t come back on. It’s completely different now.”
